"The incident occurred at the Janpath crossing at 1:30 pm," said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

According to sources, the incident occurred after the Esteem car accidentally touched a red Audi car at a traffic signal on the Janpath intersection.

"The Esteem car's driver got furious at the driver of Audi car despite being at fault. He started swearing at him and challenging him," the officer said.

While the Esteem was occupied by a lone female passenger reportedly in her late twenties, a 60-year-old man sat on the Audi's backseat, sources said.

"The Audi's driver got angry, stepped out of his vehicle, and approached the Esteem. He then dragged the vehicle's driver out and started assaulting him. He hit at the driver's nose and was restrained only after onlookers intervened," said the officer. The senior citizen, occupant of the Audi, sat in the car all the while. He stepped out only when the police arrived on the scene at 2:30 pm.

"We took statements from both the parties — neither of whom wanted to get a case registered. Though the Audi occupant came all the way to the police station, the Esteem's driver disappeared. When there's no complainant, how can there be a case?" the officer asked.
