"In several women-promoted movements, the campaigners have taken to beating up… their men folk to make them come to their senses," reads the editorial in the latest issue.

The piece argues Hazare, who comes from a village, must have seen homes wrecked by alcohol, which "westernised" urban population wouldn't understand.

Hazare's not alone in advocating flogging. "In a recent book, In Defence Of Flogging, author Peter Moskos advocates flogging as a remedy to de-crowding jails…" Moskos, a criminologist and a former Baltimore cop, says flogging would be so humiliating that anyone would think twice before committing a mistake, says the editorial says.

Though Hazare dubs as defamatory the RSS claim of supporting his movement, the edit calls him 'an adhering Gandhian'.
