On a plea by a leading exporter of Kashmiri Handicrafts, a 3-member bench has in a recent interim order permitted the use of the ground floor of the building located at 22 A Janpath for commercial purposes.

The apex Court directed that if the applicant filed an application before NDMC for this purpose, the municipal body may consider the "prayer in proper perspective."

The handicrafts exporter has now filed an application before NDMC seeking de-sealing of the premises, stating, "our commercial activities pertain to sale of traditional handicrafts and artifacts for household use which is permitted as per all the Master Development Plans for Delhi."

The NDMC is yet to give effect to the court order.
