The Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of pocket C Gangotri Enclave had allegedly stopped senior citizens from the area from holding meetings in the parks of the colony.

Gangotri Enclave comprises pockets B, C, E and F along with Rishi Apartments. After the RWA of pocket C had stopped the senior people from other pockets from attending meetings, the Senior Citizens Forum of Gangotri Enclave (Alaknanada) approached the district court at Saket.

The seniors had sought an injunction order restraining the RWA from perpetually using criminal force to illegally take possession of the seniors’ office or interfering/disturbing the functioning during the pendancy of the case.

They also sought permanent relief from interference of any manner during their meetings/get-togethers.

During the hearing, both the seniors and the RWA submitted that they were using the premises of ‘Gangotri Enclave Senior Citizen Forum, Pocket C, Alaknanda, New Delhi.’

Judge Shreya Arora (civil judge 1, south district) on February 2, held as invalid the RWA’s argument that people from outside are using the parks.

“The parks in the locality are public places and the same are for the residents of the locality … In view of the same, the plaintiff forum is allowed to hold peaceful meetings in the parks of the Gangotri Enclave without disturbing others,” Arora said.

CP Gupta, general secretary of RWA pocket C said, “It is an interim order and we would abide by whatever is the court’s decision later.”
