Six persons, including a woman, were arrested in separate cases of drug peddling with police on Thursday claiming that they have seized 3.5 kg of charas and over 25 kg of ganja from the drug peddlers.
A 41-year-old woman, Baby, was apprehended from near Bhagwandas Road-Tilak Marg crossing on June 7 while she was travelling allegedly with 200 grams of smack, KC Dwivedi, additional commissioner of police (New Delhi), said.
"About three months ago, her husband had expired due to prolonged illness. She said her husband was a drug peddler against whom four cases of NDPS Act were registered and after his death, she indulged in drug peddling to earn her living," Dwivedi said.
Baby was in contact with a drug supplier Babu, from Chandni Chowk. She used to purchase smack at Rs 600 per gram. Each sachet which she sold was priced at Rs 100. "Although she lives in a hut in Sangli Mess , it has all amenities like air-conditioner, fridge and colour TV," Dwivedi said.
Shiv Prasad Jaiswal (40), who hails from Motihari in Bihar, was apprehended from near Peeragarhi Metro station on June 7 on a tip off, Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime), said.
Police recovered 3.5 kg of charas worth around Rs 35 lakh in the international market.
"Jaiswal procured charas from Birganj in Nepal for supplying it in Delhi. He had earlier supplied charas in Delhi after getting the same from Nepal," Chand said.
