As political developments over the Indo-US nuclear deal gain momentum, Congress President Sonia Gandhi is expected to unveil the strategy on the issue for the party at a meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Gandhi will be addressing the General Body of the Congress Parliamentary Party, the first in the Budget Session of Parliament.

The meeting assumes significance as it comes in the wake of Left parties warning of serious consequences if the government goes ahead with the deal.

The CPI has formally communicated to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that it would withdraw support if its goes ahead with the deal.

The meeting is also the first after the presentation of the Union Budget with farm loan waiver scheme and major sops to all sections, prompting Opposition to say that elections are round the corner.

A series of Assembly polls are on the cards in the year ahead amid expectations that Lok Sabha elections could be advanced to October-November along with state polls.

The meeting is also important in view of the UPA-Left Committee meet on the nuclear deal on March 12 or 13.
