Apart from the areas under New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Cantonment, supply would be affected in several south Delhi colonies such as Dhaula Kuan, Satya Niketan, RK Puram, Vasant Vihar, Shanti Niketan, Vasant Enclave, Moti Bagh, Sarojini Nagar and Safdar-jung, said a DJB official.

The disruption in the DJB pipeline occurred late on Friday night at an under-construction multilevel underground parking in north Delhi.

PK Gupta, commissioner, north Delhi's civic body, said: "The contractor did not pump water out of the underground parking site. This resulted in loose soil that brought down a 100-metre-long chunk of water mains, about 20 feet away."

DJB has deployed its engineers to replace the damaged portion of the pipeline. "Starting Saturday morning, the work is expected to take 72 hours. We are planning to divert water from other sources to these areas," said DJB spokesperson.
