SRCC plans to trump rivals with new Master’s course

The top business schools of the country may soon have tougher competition. The Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) is planning to start its own Master's course in Global Business Management.

The college, considered to be the best in the country for higher studies in commerce and economics, has set up an eight-member committee which will prepare a draft for the new course.

"The curriculum for the course will be up-to-date and include case studies and analyses as events in the business sector unfold," said a SRCC official on condition of anonymity.

The college already offers a Post Graduate Diploma in Global Business Operations which is fairly popular among students.

"The Master's in Global Business Management is an improvement upon the existing course. It will a two-year-long degree course and will also have options of specialisation in Human Resource Management and Finance," the official added.

Once the proposal is drafted and cleared by the drafting committee, it will be sent to the industry experts for whetting and improvements.

"The opinion of the industry is very important as we want to make sure that the course is relevant to the current business scenario. We have collaborated with industry experts for the PG Diploma course as well," the official added.

After the draft is finalised it will be sent to the university administration for approval. The proposal is expected to be ready by the first week of May.

"If everything goes on smoothly, we will be able to start the programme by next year," the official said.

The admission to the programme will be through an entrance test but it has not been decided so far if CAT scores will be taken into consideration or if the college will conduct its own test. The fee for the MBA degree is, however, expected to be high.

"Under the Diploma, the students were charged R7000 per semester. Students can expect a steep rise in this fee if the proposal is accepted," he added.

The university is already offering management courses at various institutes in the city. While the Faculty of Management Studies offers a part-time and a full-time MBA course, the Shanti Prasad Jain Advanced Management Research Centre offers a management degree in Management of Services.

At the Delhi School of Economics, students can pursue a course in Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources.

SRCC principal, PC Jain, also confirmed that there are plans to go ahead with the MBA programme.

"We are at the planning stage currently. We are hoping that the proposal will be accepted by the university," Jain said.
