Sreedharan out of hospital, to be in rest for a month

77-year-old Sreedharan, who underwent a six-hour cardiac by-pass surgery on Thursday last, left home from the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital this morning, nine days after he was admitted to the hospital after a severe chest pain.

"He was discharged this morning. He is completely fine and he has recovered completely, a senior doctor, who was part of the medical team that performed the surgery, told PTI.

He said Sreedharan has been asked to come to the hospital next week for a check-up.

"We will remove the stitches when he comes to the hospital next week and will review his health. It is just a normal procedure. We will conduct necessary tests and other things," he said.

The doctor said they have adviced the 'Metro Man' to have "complete rest" for at least 6-8 weeks before he resumes work.

"Usually, we ask patients who undergo by-pass surgery to have complete rest for 6-8 weeks before they resume work. Here also, we have advised Mr Sreedharan to take rest for the above said period," he said.

The DMRC chief's family was with him in the hospital and were allowed to meet twice everyday.

After the check up, the DMRC chief may travel to his native Kerala for rest. But, there was no official word on this.

Sreedharan was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday last after he complained of severe chest pain at the Delhi Airport from where he was to fly to Kolkata.

His right coronary artery was cent per cent blocked and the left one had a blockage.

Doctors at the hospital used four grafts to bypass the blocked sites.
