Srikant murder: Police close to cracking case

The Delhi Police is close to cracking the sensational abduction-cum-murder case of Srikant Singh, the 26-year-old son of a senior officer in National Commission for Scheduled Castes. Singh’s headless body was found in a village in Haryana on July 30.

According to sources in Delhi, the south district police have detained two persons in connection with the case. One of the two is said to be Srikant’s friend and allegedly the key accused in the case.

Sources said he had been questioned on August 5 in connection to the missing complaint filed by Srikant’s family.

Investigators had let him go the same day as they could not find any proof of his involvement. But he went underground after Srikant’s body was recovered.

The police have identified the spot in Greater Noida where Srikant was murdered. A forensic team was sent to the spot to collect evidence on Tuesday.

The identity of Srikant’s friend, who has been detained, cannot be disclosed as he has not been formally arrested.

However, police sources said that the accused hails from Ranchi and that Srikant’s family had suspected him since the investigations began. A formal announcement about cracking of the case will be made on Wednesday, the source revealed.

Several teams of south district police were formed to investigate the case. A team was also sent to Ranchi, but he could not be traced as the address he had given to during questioning was false. Further details about his arrest could not be secured from the police source.
