Student caught cheating, jumps off third floor

An MBA final year student of BBS Institute of Management Studies jumped off a third floor window at Skyline Institute on Wednesday after she was allegedly caught cheating in an examination. Kapil Datta reports.

An MBA final year student of BBS Institute of Management Studies jumped off a third floor window at Skyline Institute on Wednesday after she was allegedly caught cheating in an examination. She was rushed to Kailash Hospital, where she is admitted in the ICU and said to be critical.

“Around 11.45am, Gunjan Kumari jumped off from the third floor examination room window. The university observer team had caught her cheating,” said Satish Kumar Singh, administrative officer, Skyline Institute of Management and Technology.

“She is a student of BBS College and had come to our institute as this was her examination centre,” added Singh.

“Gunjan (22) was admitted at the hospital around 12.10pm and has suffered multiple fractures,” said BK Sharma, senior manager, Kailash Hospital.

“She has facial fractures and her thigh bone has also broken. Her condition is critical. We are getting a CT scan done to rule out head injury. Once she is stable, we will operate upon her and fix the fractured bones,” said Dr Akhilesh Sharma, an orthopaedic surgeon.

BBS College director Sunil Kumar Singh said, “Gunjan is a resident of Bareilly. Her father is a bank manager in Uttarakhand. She was living at a private hostel.” The Mahamaya Technical University, meanwhile, has decided to issue directives to all affiliated colleges to be alert while dealing with a person caught cheating.

“I have ordered an inquiry into the incident. I am issuing circulars to invigilators to take such student(s) to another room and keep him or her under watch,” said SK Kak, vice-chancellor of the university.
