Supreme Court to hear plea on ‘sacking’ MPs, MLAs

A bench of Justice KS Radhakrishnan and Justice Dipak Misra sought response from the Centre and state governments for removing such legislators and parliamentarians.

The court also issued notices on the issue of constituting fast-track trial courts to hear rape cases and implementation of laws for safety of women.

Response has been sought on two different PILs, filed after the December 16 gangrape incident, which also seeks a direction for termination of services of police and government officials who are convicted of charges of rape and other heinous crimes against women and children.

Instal mechanism to rein in Khaps: govt
The Centre on Friday made a fervent plea to the SC to put in place a mechanism to monitor the crime against women by khap panchayats as the local police had failed to protect the victims of the caste-based council.

The SC, on its part, has invited panchayats to hear their views before issuing any order.
