Suspended Bharatiya Janata Party leader and MP Kirti Azad’s wife Poonam Azad joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday.
Poonam was serving as a spokesperson of the Delhi BJP unit and has served as its vice-president in the past.
According to reports she was miffed with the BJP leadership for ignoring her although she had worked for the party for more than 20 years.
“She was denied ticket in the last two assembly polls only because a senior BJP leader had reservations against the family. Even her son was denied ticket of MCD election,” a close aide of Poonam Azad told IANS on Tuesday.
Her decision is also driven by the suspension of Kirti Azad who had launched a scathing attack on finance minister Arun Jaitley over alleged corruption in DDCA during the latter’s tenure as its head and continued with his attack despite party chief Amit Shah’s intervention. Kirti Azad was later suspended.
