Tax raid on hotel owner

The income tax (I-T) department on Friday searched the commercial and residential premises of arms dealer and owner of Hotel Claridges Suresh Nanda. Income tax department sources said search operations were conducted on 10 locations at Aurangzeb Road and Prithviraj Road in the city, including at he Hotel Claridges. HT reports.

The raids had been carried at Nanda's premises in a case related to alleged stashing of money abroad.

"Suresh Nanda's name allegedly figured in the classified list of bank account holders in HSBC Bank, Geneva, provided to the Indian government by the French government," the source said.

The tax authorities had earlier issued notices to Nanda in this regard.

"Yes, there has been a search operation at Hotel premises but we would not like to comment anything on this issue and we do not have any clue about his (Nanda's) whereabouts," a spokesperson of Hotel Claridges told HT.
