TCA Raghavan has been appointed as the next high commissioner of India to Pakistan. Raghavan, a 1982 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service has considerable experience in dealing with Pakistan, including heading the Pakistan Afghanistan and Iran (PAI) division. He also served as the charge d' affaires in Islamabad.

Raghavan is currently the Indian high commissioner to Singapore. He replaces Sharat Sabharwal, who would be returning by June end from Islamabad.

Sabharwal, who spent more than four years in Islamabad, has attained superannuation in 2012 but was on extension. Sabharwal continuing in Islamabad was also interpreted as a sign of prime minister Manmohan Singh visiting Pakistan earlier than expected.

A release from the ministry of external affairs said Raghavan is expected to take up his assignment shortly. Apart from his stint as the deputy high commissioner in Islamabad (2003-2007), his previous overseas postings include United Kingdom (1995-1998), Bhutan (1992-1995) and Kuwait (1983-1986).
