The road caved in near Defence Colony in south Delhi. The motorcyclist, with a pillion rider, had reached Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.

The two lost balance and fell as the road caved in and the wheel of their motorcycle got stuck.

A crater measuring 7 feet wide and 10 feet deep was formed, police said.

Police said the two men —Santosh Kumar (23) and Amit Kumar (24) — were on their way to Sarojini Nagar when the accident was reported around 1.30 am on Sunday.

The two men are working for an Okhla-based courier company.

They were returning from Lajpat Nagar when the mishap took place.

"There was no pothole. It looked smooth, but as soon as the motorcycle came on it, the road caved in and the two men were thrown off," said Umed Kumar, an eyewitness.

The injured men were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where they were discharged after medical aid.

Police said no case has been registered.

Both the men were discharged before the police could reach the hospital and record their complaint.
