Train catering charges hiked by up to Rs. 50

Close on the heels of a hike in passenger fares, the railways on Friday announced an increase in catering charges for premier trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto.

Close on the heels of a hike in passenger fares, the railways on Friday announced an increase in catering charges for premier trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto.



With the upward revision in the food tariff, the overall ticket prices in these trains will go up by an average of Rs. 25 and a high of Rs. 50.



The menu and tariff of these trains are included in the ticket fare and have not been revised since 1999. The increased rates will be effective from October 17. The railways serve about 3.3 crore meals a year in these trains. As per the decision, the ticket rates of AC-II, AC-III and Chair Car in premier trains will go up by about Rs. 25 per ticket.



In the First AC class in Rajdhani and Duranto and Executive Class of Shatabdi trains, existing rates of morning and evening tea have been slashed by approximately 30%, while prices of breakfast, lunch/dinner have been increased by 35% and 15%.



For AC-I, Executive class and Duronto Sleeper class the revised tariff will go up by about Rs. 30 per ticket.



Those who have purchased tickets before today’s announcement will have to pay the difference in the fare to TTEs in trains.
