With the arrest of two men, the south district police have claimed to have busted a gang of cheats who allegedly dupe youths on the pretext of providing them with jobs in the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

A team of Sarojini Nagar police has arrested two members of the gang, both associated with the DTC, for allegedly cheating several candidates worth lakhs of rupees.
The arrested accused, identified as Udaivir Singh (59) and Amit Malik (38), promised jobs of contractual conductors in the corporation to the victims, police said. Singh, who is currently suspended, worked as a permanent conductor in the DTC, while Malik was employed as a contractual conductor.
On January 22, HT had reported about this gang, which was allegedly being run by people in connivance with a few DTC staff. The name of a son of a Delhi Police officer had also figured in the case.
DCP (south) Chhaya Sharma said the arrests came following investigation into a complaint lodged on August 19, 2011, at the Sarojini Nagar police station by one Nathu Ram, a assistant traffic inspector posted at Sarojini Nagar DTC bus depot.
"We learnt that around six youths had approached the depot manager to join as contractual conductor in the DTC, though no such direction or order was received either by him from his head office or from any senior officer. On verification, it was found that the appointment letters issued to the candidates were fake," said Sharma, adding that the accused with the help of their accomplices cheated the youths.
