Two killed in Blueline accidents

The deceased include 18-year-old girl Pearl Gupta, a first-year B.A. student, and a cyclist, reports Abhishek Bhalla.

Two persons were killed by Blueline buses here on Monday, one an 18-year-old girl and the other a cyclist. An 18-year-old girl was crushed to death by a Blueline bus in Bawana in Outer Delhi. Police said the girl was identified as Pearl Gupta, a first-year B.A student of Aditi Mahila College, University of Delhi.

Police said Pearl was hit by a motorcycle as she got off a bus; she fell down when the speeding bus ran over her. She lay on the road for over an hour. Finally students and staff of the college informed the police and she was rushed to a hospital. “She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries on the way and was declared dead,” said a police officer.

Police said she lived in Rohini in Northwest Delhi and her father is a chartered accountant. The bus was plying on route no. 106 between Auchandi border and Azadpur. Police say the accident took place near her college.

Police have registered a case under Section 304-A (causing death due to a rash and negligent act) of the Indian Penal Code. The driver of the bus, Mohammed Sherjahan, was arrested.

In another accident, which took the Blueline death toll to 107, a cyclist was crushed to death in Pandav Nagar, East Delhi. The accident took place around 1 p.m. near Akshardham temple. The deceased, who was yet to be identified, was hit from behind by the speeding bus and came under its rear wheels. He died on the spot. The bus, police said, was plying on route number 543 from Safdarjang to Anand Vihar. The driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle behind. The police seized the bus.

In another accident in Burari in Outer Delhi, nine people traveling in a Haryana Roadways bus were injured. The accident took place early morning when the driver of the bus rammed a stationary truck.
