"This will greatly help the working women from the region in terms of safety and comfort," said BK Handique, minister of the Department for Development of the Northeast Region (DoNER).

Built at a cost of Rs 17.44 crores, the 500-seater working women's hostel in Jasola is funded by DoNER through the North Eastern Council (NEC) wherein the share of NEC is 25%, in association with the ministry of women and child development.

Construction is going on at a rapid pace for the Rajiv Gandhi Girls Hostel which is being built at a cost of Rs 23.33
crores--jointly shared between NEC and ministry of tribal affairs on 60:40 basis. It is likely to be completed within this financial year.

Apart from these two hostels, there is already a fully functional 500-seater girls hostel at Delhi University North Campus wholly funded by Ministry of DoNER.
