Underworld don Babloo, Rehman appear in court in MCOCA case

Underworld don Babloo Srivastava and his associate Fazl-ur-Rehman appeared before a Delhi court in connection with a case lodged under the MCOCA for allegedly running an extortion racket in New Delhi during 1983-97.

Babloo, who was brought from Bareilly jail in Uttar Pradesh, and Rehman were produced before Additional Sessions Judge Pinki, who posted the matter for hearing arguments on framing of charges against them on March 4.

Babloo -- extradited from Singapore in 1995 -- and Fazlu have been involved in more than 40 cases each including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and other offences punishable under TADA and Arms Act etc in different parts of country, including Delhi, the Special Cell of Delhi Police alleged in the chargesheet.

The police had lodged the FIR against the duo on December 29, 2006 under stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA).

Rehman, a resident of Darbhanga in Bihar who was arrested from Indo-Nepal border in 2006, is in judicial custody at Tihar jail in New Delhi.

Police had recorded their confession during their custodial interrogation last year in the case.
