The Congress accused the BJP of launching an “unholy assault’’ on the Constitution and baring its fangs after the Karnataka assembly results by refocusing on its “divisive’’ Hindutva agenda. This includes a uniform civil code and the scrapping of Article 370 granting special status to J&K.

“In its greed, it keeps aside divisive issues. But no sooner were the Karnataka results announced, did they... show the true face...behind the mukhouta,” said spokesman Abhishekh Singhvi. About Rajnath Singh’s translation of secularism as panthnirepeksh and not dharmnirepeksh, Singhvi said the BJP’s real purpose was to attack the soul of the Constitution.

He recalled that when it was in power, the BJP had set up a Constitution review panel with the “ulterior motive’” of undermining the secular spirit of the Constitution.
