The arrested domestic help was not verified with the police. His employers did not even know his original name or the place where he belonged to, said a senior police officer.

The help has been identified as Santosh Kumar Yadav alias Shintu from Jharkhand. The police recovered jewellery worth R50 lakh and R5.42 lakh in cash from his possession after he was arrested from near the Shastri Park Metro station.

P Karunakaran, DCP (northwest), said the arrest came following investigation into a theft complaint lodged by one Ajay Bhatia. Bhatia in his complaint alleged that gold/diamond jewellery worth R50 lakh and R17 lakh in cash were stolen from his house at Derawal Nagar in Model Town.

“Since the locks of the almirah were not broken, the complainant suspected his domestic help, who had gone missing,” said Karunakaran. “After conducting raids at various places and interrogating more than 50 people, the accused was eventually nabbed from near Shastri Park Metro station,” he added.
