Varun approaches SC for quashing of his detention under NSA

BJP leader Varun Gandhi today approached the Supreme Court seeking quashing of his detention under the National Security Act for his alleged hate speeches, saying the state advisory board has recommended revocation of the stringent law. Varun's petition was mentioned before a Bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan which posted it for hearing tomorrow.

Varun's petition was mentioned before a Bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan which posted it for hearing tomorrow.

The Bench said it will hear the petition of the 29-year-old BJP leader along with the application filed by the Uttar Pradesh government challenging the decision of the three-member advisory board.

Varun, who is contesting from Pilibhit Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, is on parole till tomorrow.

Varun was let off by a three-member state advisory board headed by senior judge of the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court Justice Pradeep Kant which went into the maintainability of Varun's detention by the UP government under the NSA imposed on March 29.
