The Delhi government has notified an earlier cabinet decision to impose restriction on the use of Delhi Land Reforms Act (DLR), 1954. HT reports.

As per the Act, no agricultural land could be used for construction of houses and other non-agricultural purposes.

With the government restricting the use of the law, lakhs of people living in Lal Dora, unauthorised colonies and extended abadi areas will be able to get their property registered and carry out construction after getting their building plans approved from the authorities concerned.

The move by Delhi government is reportedly aimed at consolidating rural votes ahead of the forthcoming Assembly polls in Delhi.
