Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Rao directed the Delhi police to trace the three-year-five-month-old girl and produce her before the court on or before March 26.
The court's order came on an application filed by Avaneet Kaur under Section 97 (search for persons wrongfully confined) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
It also expressed its displeasure over the "careless" manner of handling of such a "sensitive" issue by the police, which had even failed to secure a photograph of the child to identify her.
