Water supply improves, quality deteriorates

The water supply in areas such as Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, IP Extension. Patel Nagar, Rajender Nagar and Rajouri Garden improved by a small measure on Monday. But most said the water was inconsumable.

“The water supply improved on Monday but the tap water almost looked like sewage water. Let aside drinking it, it can’t even be used for washing or cleaning purposes. We have complained to the DJB,” said Colonel (Retd.) Bhatla, a resident of Greater Kailash I.

Other areas of south Delhi too got contaminated tap water, forcing residents to yet again buy water tankers to meet their needs.

“The quality of water we have been getting is really bad. Its colour was almost rust-orange and it smelled of sewerage. First, we don’t get any water. And when we do, its quality is so bad that it can’t be used,” riled Jagriti Sachdeva, a resident of Lajpat Nagar-4.

Residents of east and west Delhi too had a similar tale to narrate. “Not only is there a shortage in water supply, but there’s a problem in the functioning of the water treatment plant too. The tap water looks like drain water. Pipelines have corroded,” said Srishti Chawla, a resident of Prince Apartments, IP Extension.
