Five-year-old Sarthak, son of a homeopathic doctor couple from Raj Nagar in Ghaziabad, was brutally hammered to death in February 2009.

His mother was also found stabbed 18 times over her vital organs but she had survived.

During the police investigation, the victim's parents Dr Rajesh Chawla, Dr Deepti Chawla and their housing society's guard Ram Veer had emerged as prime suspects and were subjected to lie detector tests. But the police got nothing from the tests.

The case turned out to be a challenge for the police as they maintained that all the doors of the flat were locked from inside and no outsider was involved in the incident.

Police said Sarthak and his mother were the only two people in the flat.

However, the doctor couple had claimed that the right side balcony door was open and the assailant could have escaped from there.

Kavi Nagar Station House Officer Vivek Ranjan Rai, who is investigating the case, told Hindustan Times that a final report was filed in July and sent to the senior officials as no evidence was found against the three suspects.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the Ghaziabad SSP said the investigations would continue.

"We have ordered rejection of the final report and the investigations will continue till the accused is/are nailed," he added.
