A window pane fell on the Class 4 student of Ryan International School, Vasant Vihar, from the first floor of the building, inflicting deep cuts on his head. He was taken to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre.

“We got a call from the school around 11am telling us that our child was injured,” said Swati Bhardwaj, Tanav’s mother.

Doctors said Tanav was conscious, stable and out of danger.

“He sustained deep cuts on his head. We sutured his wounds and he is responding well. He is conscious and oriented. We have kept him under observation in the hospital for 24 hours,” said PH Mishra, spokesperson for the centre.

According to Swati, the accident took place around 10.30am when a student in a classroom on the first floor tried to open a window.

“But we have not heard from the principal so far. She hasn’t called even once. The accident is because of the negligence on part of the school and it seems that the head of the institution does not care,” Swati said.

The parents insisted that they did not want anything other than the safety of the children.

“The accident reveals the low maintenance levels in the school. We just want the school to address these issues so that other children do not get injured,” Swati added.

Vice-principal Anita Bhardwaj, however, claimed, “The school is well-maintained and we take care of each child.

The child was rushed to the hospital soon after the accident and a teacher coordinator was in touch with the parents all day.”
