With 12,000 booths and 95,000 govt employees, EC gears up for polls

A total 673 candidates will vie for the votes of 1.33 crore electors in 70 assembly constituencies. They will vote on February 7 from 8 am to 6 pm at the 12,177 polling stations in Delhi. There are 2.27 lakh young voters (18-19 Years), part of the total 38 lakh voters under the age of 29 years.

“Voter slips have been distributed by the BLOs at residences of voters. Any undistributed voter slips can be obtained by voters at help desks outside polling stations,” said Delhi’s chief electoral officer Chandra Bhushan Kumar.

Kumar said security during polling would be much higher compared to previous elections. 741 polling locations have been identified as critical polling premises, of which 191 are highly critical.

Approximately 95,000 government employees have been deployed on election duty, he said.

Kumar said that about 400 wheelchairs have been received from the department of disability affairs, ministry of social justice & empowerment for deployment in polling locations along with volunteers. All polling stations would have ramps this time, apart from nearly 3,000 volunteers to assist differently abled voters.
