Constable Nirmala Devi, 42, said the incident took place shortly after she reached the accident spot in East of Kailash while on patrolling duty in a PCR van near Qutab Hotel around 10:55am.

"A car and a water tanker had met with an accident and the car owner, Shudesh Goyal, was in a heated argument with the driver of the water tanker," said a senior police officer.

Police said the constable and her colleagues tried to pacify Goyal, who was demanding that the tanker driver compensate her for the damage to her car. She also called her son Navin Goyal to help. Her son reached minutes later and began assaulting the tanker driver, police said. The constable tried to stop him but he started arguing with the police instead. He also pushed the woman constable and she was injured.

A resident of the Kailash Hill area in East of Kailash, Navin was arrested and a case of assault, voluntarily causing hurt and obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions was registered. HTC
