Naiya Relan pleaded guilty to the thievery. The court sentenced her to detention till the rising of the court and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.

Chief metropolitan magistrate Vidya Parkash also directed Relan to defray the expenses incurred by the probe agency in the trial.

The court directed Relan to pay another Rs 4 lakh after a CBI plea.

Relan was involved in the stealing and fraudulent refund of 10 Indian Airlines manual tickets in 1999.

She admitted that in October 1999, 10 blank tickets were stolen by a co-accused. They were later refunded in her name.

The case was registered by the CBI in July 2001. It was alleged that 100 “manual double sector tickets” of Indian Airlines Ltd were missing or stolen from the IGI Airport. They had been fraudulently refunded as well.

The theft of 10 double-sector tickets from the Indian Airlines office at Lucknow airport came to light during the probe. These 10 tickets had been reissued at various Indian Airlines offices.
