Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south) said the matter came to light when the victim, Swati Sharma (28), didn’t respond to repeated knocks on the door by her husband at their residence in Vasant Kunj’s D6 on Wednesday night.

“A PCR call was made and the door ultimately had to be broken-down by the local police around 11.30pm. When they entered, Swati was found hanging from the ceiling fan with her dupatta,” DCP Sharma said.

The victim’s husband, Rakesh Yadav is a software engineer and is employed with an MNC in Noida and the couple had been married since 2010. They have a daughter who is a year old.

Police said her family had been intimated about their daughter’s death at their residence in Guwahati and had assented to get a post mortem conducted. “The SDM has been intimated about the incident and will conduct an inquiry into the matter after her post-mortem report comes on Friday. A case will be registered as and when investigations are completed,” Sharma added.
