On May 23, one Mangilal, who works as a commission agent, was travelling in the Metro from Chandni Chowk to Dwarka when his bag he was carrying on his shoulder was stolen. It had a box of five polki diamond jewellery sets.

“He deboarded the Metro at Rajiv Chowk and found that the zip of the bag was open and the box was missing. He informed the police present at the Metro station,” DCP, Metro, Jitendra Mani, said.

Following the incident, CCTV footage was accessed and a woman was identified stealing the jewellery box. “The CCTV footage of Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar and New Delhi Metro stations was inspected and the information about the woman was collected. From the clips of the CCTV footage, the woman was seen de-boarding the Metro with the jewellery box at New Delhi Metro station,” Mani said.

On June 7, the police received the information that she would come to Pul Bangash Metro Station. A trap was laid and she was apprehended. She confessed to have stolen the box.
