Sources in the custom department said that the passenger was acting as a carrier, and since the drug is available in Indian market, they smuggle it abroad.

"A woman passenger named Lydia Ndari Murwira, a Zimbabwean national, was carrying some prohibited psychotropic substances. We intercepted the passenger near the immigration counter of departure hall and interrogated her," Neeta Lall Butalia, commissioner of customs (I&G) said.

The drug was recovered from the cavity of her baggage and was tested by the customs officer with the help of a kit and was found positive for ephedrine. "The recovered substance in the form of powder weighed 9.90 kg and its value in the international market is Rs.1.5 crore," Butalia added.

On December 25, too, a Zambian national was arrested when she was trying to smuggle 41.5 kg ephedrine.
