Woman jumps off metro station, dies

A 20-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the building of Pragati Maidan metro station in New Delhi on Wednesday evening.

A 20-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the building of Pragati Maidan metro station in New Delhi on Wednesday evening. According to police, the incident took place around 6 pm and the deceased has been identified as Astha Sharma, a resident of JJ Colony in south Delhi's Madangir.

Police said no suicide note was recovered from the spot. Police had called her family to Yamuna Bank metro police station for questioning. A senior police officer, quoting an eyewitness, said Sharma jumped down from platform number 1 and sustained multiple injuries. The parking staff at the Pragati Maidan parking lot informed the police. She was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
