"The victim has been identified as Mewa Devi. The incident occurred after she had a verbal spat with her youngest daughter-in-law, Babita (35) at their residence in Usmanpur's Kameri area on Thursday afternoon," said a senior police officer.

The incident was brought to the attention of the local police on Saturday morning.

Police said Mewa Devi was taken to GTB hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

"Babita fled to her mother's house in east Delhi's Kondli village after the incident. She was brought back only this afternoon," the officer said.
