Students studying in Class 10 in any recognised schools of the state can write the exam. Candidates will be selected for the second level based on the merit and as per the reservation norms of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
The first level of the NTSE is conducted by the directorate of government examinations as per directions of NCERT every year in November along with the National Means Cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) examination.
The exam consists of mental ability test, language test and scholastic aptitude test. There are 200 questions carrying 200 marks and candidates are given three hours to solve them.
