This time, Samajwadi Party is mounting the challenge with the help of smaller regional allies like Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), led by Om Prakash Rajbhar, an influential leader of the backward classes in Purvanchal. Swami Prasad Maurya, a former minister in the Adityanath government, is contesting from Fazilnagar in Kushinagar, which goes to poll on Thursday, on SP ticket.

Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee said she was going to Varanasi to campaign for Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav. “I will go to the temple. I am taking the blessings of people and going to UP,” Banerjee was quoted as saying by news agency ANI from the Kolkata airport.

Akhilesh condemns minister's assertion that incompetent people go to Ukraine for studies
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at Union minister Pralhad Joshi for his assertion that only incompetent people go to study in countries like Ukraine.
