Karnataka Pragnyavantha Janatha Party's R Shankar S/o M Ramachandra got a total of 63,910 votes, while Indian National Congress's Krishnappa Koliwad S/o Bheemappa Koliwad secured 59,572 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Basavaraj Dr.Kelagar grabbed the third spot with 48,973 votes. The top three parties got 35.9%, 33.5% and 27.5% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's Koliwad K.B defeated independent candidate R.Shankar by 6,788 votes.
