Vanur is one of the 232 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Viluppuram district. People of Vanur voted for Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.
In Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2016, there were 2,20,293 registered voters for Vanur assembly seat, out of which 1,09,247 were male and 1,11,031 were female voters. 0.7% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Chakrapani M won the election upstaging Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's Mydili R by a margin of 10,223 votes.
The top three candidates split 84.0% of votes between them. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Chakrapani M got a total of 64,167 votes, while Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's Mydili R secured 53,944 votes. Pattali Makkal Katchi's candidate Sankar P grabbed the third spot with 27,240 votes. The top three parties got 37.1%, 31.2% and 15.7% respectively.
In Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2011, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Janakiraman.I beat Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's Pushparaj.S by 25,138 votes.
