Another sequel is in the offing..only this time it’s from quite an old hit. Audiences will be treated to yet another dose of Tezaab, the ‘violent love story’ of 1988.
N Chandra confirms, “Yes, it’s true. I’m working on the script right now.” He elaborates, “I was working on my next movie Breaking News when someone came up with an idea that had the intensity of Tezaab. No one makes action-romance films anymore. Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai was the last film in that genre, that too seven years ago.”
Toplining Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, Tezaab was a blockbuster hit. So were the songs, especially Ek do teen. Chandra maintains that the sequel will be contemporary, reflecting the current mindset of the youth.
“It will be a ‘today’ film..the youth will be able to relate to it. The story and the circumstances of the sequel will be different from the original,” says the director, who plans to produce the film in association with a corporate company.
However, he is unsure if the actors from the original film will be a part of the sequel.
“It’s too soon to say whether Anil (Kapoor) and Madhuri (Dixit) will play the characters of Munna and Mohini in Tezaab Reloaded. If there’s a suitable part for them, I’ll certainly talk to them. But like I said, I’m still working on the script.”
He continues, “I’m aware of the comparisons which will be made between the sequel and the original. We’ll do our best to match up to the audience’s expectations. Currently, I have approached some actors.. but it’s premature to tell you about my wish-list. I will make a formal announcement after confirming the cast.”
Chandra is working on the post-production of Breaking News featuring Anupam Kher, Sarika, Parvin Dabas and Perizaad Zorabian. Presented by Adlabs, the movie is scheduled to release this June or July.
