A 24-year-old Chinese man offered to sell his soul on the Internet and attracted 59 bids, a news report said on Monday.
The man from Shanghai put his soul up for sale on a popular auction website and attracted a top bid of 681 yuan ($85) before the website halted the sale, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post said.
"I do not need it, and I want to give it to someone who needs it," the man told the newspaper on the condition of anonymity.
He said that if the sale went ahead, he would mail pictures and souvenirs of his life and share his important memories with the buyer.
However, the sale was halted by the auction website www.taobao.com, which said it was unclear how the sale could be implemented, the newspaper reported.
