Ghar Banduk Biryani actor Akash Thosar talks about his career and why he didn’t go on a movie signing spree post Sairat. Read the exclusive interview.

Akash Thosar believes no actor has ever got the amount of love and stardom that he recieved for his debut movie Sairat. He isn’t bluffing. The movie created history not just in Marathi cinema but across, and made Thosar an overnight star. “I have got so much love for that film, I have never seen anyone get so much love for their debut. I’ve come out for promotions after almost 3-4 years and the craze is still there. Not everyone is lucky to get this,” he admits.

It’s this love that Thosar fears to lose, which is why in his six -year-long career he has been selective with his projects. “I didn’t want to do something that will make people lose their love for me. I didn’t want to sign 10 films just because I was getting the love and money. If I do a flop film people will think, ‘Oh, he was a one film wonder’. I come from a middle class family. My dreams were getting a government job, taking care of my parents and settling down. So now that I’ve got this chance, I don’t want to take it lightly. I want to do justice to it,” he explains.

The 29-year-old admits that till date he gets roles similar to Parshya, the character he played in Nagraj Manjule’s directorial. However, with his next - Ghar Banduk Biryani- he hopes that changes. “I was getting quite similar roles. And for me to say no is very difficult. But I would politely ask them that I don’t want to do a role like this. Most of the times it was my manager. With every project I do consult Nagraj ji,” he states. Ironically, Thosar doesn’t even regret saying no to movies, despite them coming from a big banner. “Most of the times, after watching the movie, I realised that it is good that I didn’t do it,” he mentions. But things are changing for the Lust Story actor, who reveals that he is doing his “dream role” next in a pan-India project.

Another thing that he doesn’t take seriously are the negative comments. “I don’t take it to my heart. You say whatever you want, I’ll stay the way I am,” he quips.

While Thosar is a heartthrob for many girls, he says he is single. “Koi mil hi nahi rahi,” he quips, adding, “I am quite an introvert and shy guy, I cannot express much. Before Sairat, I’ve not even spoken to a girl. Abhi bhi himmat nahi padti! I’m so focused at my work that maybe that’s the reason I have not found love yet.”
