Boney Kapoor on having few dialogues in Tu Jhoothi: 'Ask director why he wasted such good artiste’
Boney Kapoor credits his children for encouraging him to act, calls his bond with them "friendly and tight."
Producer Boney Kapoor recently made his acting debut in Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar where he played the role of Ranbir Kapoor’s Punjabi father. And he credits his children — Anshula, Arjun, Khushi, and Janhvi — for encouraging him to take the plunge. “They only pushed me to try acting and said, ‘Papa yeh karna hi hoga’. Unn logon ki wajah se hi mai ghus pada acting mein and kar lia,” quips the actor, calling his bond with his children very “friendly and tight”.
He adds, “I’m their father, and also their mother. I play all the roles for them. We share jokes, talk about serious things... basically, we can talk about anything under the sun with each other.”
While Boney reveals that he hasn’t watched the film because of “nervousness”, he is happy with the mixed response his performance has received. “I haven’t watched the film till date because main ghabra raha hoon, samajh nahi aa raha ki maine kaam theek kia ya nahi. Isliye mene abhi take dekh hi nahi,” he continues, “People called me and appreciated my work in the film. Some also said, ‘Bohot chota role tha aapka, poori picture mein hona chahiye tha appko.’ So, I’ve received very different comments.’
Ask him about audiences that lamenting that he had very limited screen time and barely any dialogues and the 67-year-old says, “Dialogues ya scenes kam kyun the, yeh toh aap director ko poochiye. Write a letter to Luv Ranjan and ask, ‘Aapne itne achhe artiste ko waste kaise kar diya?’ But, mujhe toh mazaa aaya karke, it was a good and happy unit.”
Now that his youngest daughter, Khushi is all set to make her acting debut in web film The Archies, were there any tips or advise that he gave to her? “Aaj kal ki generation ko kuch tips dene ki ya sikhaane ki zarurat nahi padti. Woh khud bohot samajhdaar hain. In fact, I’m lucky that all my kids are very obedient and sensible. Apni apni jagah they make some mistakes sometimes, but they learn from them. Whenever they face any difficulty, main khada hoon unn chaaron ke saath,” he proudly shares.
While TJMM was a decent success at the box office, the producer-actor weighs in on the current scenario that film industry is going through where several projects are struggling for commercial success. “Films pehle bhi flop aur hit dono hoti thi, and ab bhi wahi hota hai. But, yes, after the pandemic, things are getting slightly better and people are coming to theatres now. We can’t give credit to one film, credit goes to everyone for reviving it,” he ends.
