Being linked to Indian choreographer tops Britney Spears’s year end list of absurd rumours

He has topped popstar Britney Spears’ year end list… but choreographer Sandip Soparrkar has no reason to celebrate. The list he features in, is of the most ‘ridiculous’ stories written about Spears in 2009. ‘Top 75 Bulls#!t Britney Spears stories’ was posted on the pop singer’s website — www.britneyspears.com — by her manager, Adam Leber, on Tuesday. This comes days after Spears was declared the most Googled celebrity of the last decade.

“There were more than 13,000 stories written about Britney in 2009. We ranked the ones we believe were the most ridiculous. Either because they were factually inaccurate, because they reported the patently absurd, or because we believe they are simply offensive to the sensibilities,” read the blog post by Leber. “Number 1 is a UK Tabloid report that the singer was dating Indian choreographer Sandip Soparrkar, and introduced the Bollywood dance star to her parents over an intimate New Year’s Eve dinner party,” it added.

Sparked off by a news item in the British tabloid, Daily Mirror last year, reports of a linkup between Spears and Soparrkar even got some national dailies in India excited. The papers backtracked when the truth left them red-faced. Soparrkar’s then girlfriend, model Jesse Randhawa (who he married this month) went to the extent of warning Spears to keep away from her man in an interview.

‘I am happy’

Choreographer Sandip Soparrkar is a relieved man. Exactly a year after reports linking him to Britney Spears made headlines in across newspapers in India, US and UK— and just 10 days after he tied the knot with model Jesse Randhawa, Britney Spears has made it clear that the stories were “ridiculous”.

HT City spoke to Sopparkar for his reaction to news that Britney calls their alleged affair, the biggest lie. “I remember reading about our linkup in a British newspaper. I was surprised because I was in Pune then for the New Year with my parents,” says Soparrkar. “I’m happy things are getting cleared [up]. Now I guess people will realise that there was nothing between us. I was always with Jesse (Randhawa) and now I’m married to her.”

However, Randhawa, who had warned Spears to keep away from her man in an interview, preferred to stay mum.
