Imdb.com reports that the British actor, who is in the city for Equus stage shows, was looking forward to sampling some of Manhattan's finest clubs and bars. But Radcliffe, who can drink legally in Britain, was disappointed to find that he can't get served alcohol in America because the legal drinking age is 21.

He said: "My first night in New York we all went out and I was like, 'Yeah let's do it!" And then I was like, 'The drinking age is what?'"

But Radcliffe insists that he will return to New York following his 21st birthday, so he can enjoy boozing in the town.

He added: "It's okay - I'll be back in a few years."
