With the Commonwealth Games around the corner, HT City compares Delhi with Sydney, Australia

Swanky, green public transport
There was a time when buses and auto-rickshaws used to be infested with khaini stains and leftover chips packs. Not any more. The air-conditioned DTC buses and CNG autos have given the Capital a swanky new face.

Cops on the beat
Crime’s hitting an all-time high across the globe. And the police, like the streets, don’t experience naps often. So when on job, our cops zip through the metropolis on cool, white Pulsars. The jeeps look good, but can do with a replacement.

Great flea markets
We’ve all haggled at our beloved flea markets and sworn never to return. But given the sinful price tags, we can’t stop frequenting them. The street food — bhel puri at Janpath and momos at Sarojini Nagar — is another plus.

Delhi’s hole-in-the-wall joints aren’t much different from Sydney’s, just that they aren’t as clean! But places such as Khan Market, Rajouri Garden, Saket and Connaught Place do throw up interesting options. Caffeine lovers have never had it this easy in years!

Lack of convenience stores
We’ve got our own set of humble shops that cater to the high’ and mighty while the city sleeps. But there aren’t many convenience stores to help true-blue insomniacs fix a midnight snack.

Spotless buses and cabs
Public transport exudes cleanliness here. The Sydney sightseeing bus service is spotless, and so are the radio cabs on its high fashion streets. No cigarette butts, no used tissues, whatsoever.

Horse-mounted police
The officers here cruise through the city on mobikes, too. But a balmy afternoon and the gorgeous skyline may bring out the horses. Yes, Sydney’s local policemen keep a check on miscreants while riding horses!

Handsome deals
Flea markets here throw up equally handsome deals. The Rocks on George Street in the heart of the city stocks haute stuff like wardrobe essentials, souvenirs and art. Our bargaining skills can come handy here, guys.

Gorgeous café culture
The city boasts a gorgeous café culture. The city thrives on the three-buck cappuccino (uniform rate), and the streets are strewn with cafés of all sizes. While away time here — nobody bothers you in these ‘hideouts’.

Round-the-clock service
Sydney scores higher on this front. There are 24X7 stores across the city (barring the suburbs), fetching you kitchen aid from
dusk to dawn.
