In the current crop of actors, Abhay Deol, 35, surely has carved a niche for himself. His offbeat choices in selecting movies such as Dev D, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye! or Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, have given him an identity of his own. The actor returns to the silver screen with Zoya Akhtar's multi-starrer, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNDB). In a freewheeling interview, Deol talks about his forthcoming films, marriage and taking to architecture.

On Zoya, the director
Working with Zoya was wonderful as she has the unique ability to merge offbeat elements with mainstream cinema. She plays with subtlety and is open to actors' suggestions and gives them space.

On future projects
I have finished shooting for Dibakar Banerjee's Shanghai. I am proud of the film and call it a political dark comedy. Then, there is a Hollywood film, Singularity. Later, I'll work with Navdeep Singh for a romcom.

On getting married
I am in a relationship (with model-actor Preeti Desai). But I don't believe in marriage. It is more of a cultural phenomenon. For me, if two people are committed, then that is more important that signing a piece of paper.

On new hobbies
There are so many things that I want to do including something in architecture. I want to get into design also. I might take a year off once again to pursue the same, lets see.
