Soon, diplomats will be doing what models do best. On March 6, various Ambassadors to India, along with their wives, will sashay down the ramp, dressed in designer labels. The money raised from the fundraiser will be used for education and health of the girl child.

Organised by the Earth Foundation, a non-government organisation, in collaboration with the Slovak Embassy in the Capital, the ‘Rays of Hope for the Girl Child’ campaign will kick off with the fashion show at the Slovak Ambassador’s residence. “It’s a heart-wrenching cause. In Slovak, nothing of this sort exists. Whether it is a boy or a girl, it means the same,” says Alexandra Tomasikova, wife of Slovak Ambassador.

Designers Ritu Kumar, Satya Paul, Payal Jain, Poonam Bhagat, Anjana Bhargav, Ritu Beri, Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, Ashish Soni and Ashima & Leena Singh have donated creations for the ball. Designer Anu PD is creating six outfits for girls from slums, who’ll walk the ramp.

Diplomats who will walk the ramp include ambassadors and their spouses from the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Lesotho, Oman, Paraguay, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, USA, Venezuela and the host embassy Slovakia.

Geeta Bhagat Datwani of Earth Foundation, says, “The ambassadors participating called to ask how they could help the girl child initiative. It did not take much effort convincing them to do the ramp show.”
